We’re excited to begin working with the Edinburgh Printmakers on their upcoming exhibition, New Edition, which is part of the The Edinburgh Art Festival 2017.
Edinburgh Printmakers was established in 1967 as the first open-access studio in Britain. Dedicated to the practice of fine art printmaking, the studio was created to provide high quality, low-cost printmaking facilities for artists.
Edinburgh Printmakers is also home to one of the UK’s leading contemporary art spaces with year-round exhibitions and associated events that showcase the very best from the world of contemporary art in print.
The Edinburgh Art Festival is just around the corner (27 July – 27 August). To kick things off, Edinburgh Printmakers are hosting a panel discussion with the artists behind their upcoming
exhibition, New Edition.
New Edition is a group exhibition displaying newly-commissioned printed works by Museums Press, Poster Club, and Emer Tumilty. Curated by Sarah Lowndes, this special Edinburgh Art Festival 2017 event marks the 50th anniversary exhibition of Edinburgh Printmakers.
The title of the exhibition, New Edition, underlines the differing generational groups of exhibiting artists, who were born between the late 1960s and the early 1980s. It also represents the current wave of Scottish-based artists working with print. New Edition will showcase the imaginative and enabling possibilities inherent in the medium of print through new works, and linked accessible events, by some of the most exciting young printmakers active in Scotland’s vibrant and contemporary art scene.
At the panel discussion on the 27 July, curator Sarah Lowndes will discuss the themes, processes and ideas presented in New Edition. Sarah will be joined by exhibiting artists: Emer Tumilty, Museums Press (Jessica Higgins and Matthew Walkerdine) plus representatives of Poster Club.
